TL;DR

The name of these weekly newsletters have changed from ‘This Week At Hyperoid’ to ‘The Weekly Hypeletter’. This newsletter will be the first one with the new name. All previous newletters will remain unchanged. This week, I have mainly just been doing some research and development on revamping some systems for the Project Eris polished demo. I get into more details later on in this newsletter.

The Name Change

In this newsletter we highlighted a name change that was needed to these weekly newsletters. This was done so we could be a bit more original.

One of the key aspects of this newsletter is to share knowledge and insights so readers like you can keep up to date with what’s going on within Hyperoid. These newsletters will also serve as a ‘developmont story’ as Hyperoid grows to be more than just me.

Revamping the Ability and Stats Systems

In this article, we highlighted that people didn’t find it that fun when using abilities. This was mainly because characters were constricted to using only a single set of abilities. When using/seeing these abilities a lot, it gets repetitive rather quickly. 

In an effort to create a dynamic and enjoyable gameplay experience, we’ve decided to revamp the Ability System. We want each ability to feel fun and unique, providing players with a diverse range of options to tackle challenges. In order to achieve this, we’re taking a holistic approach by revamping the Stats System first, which will serve as the foundation for these abilities.

By revamping the Stats System, we ensure that the gameplay mechanics are coherent. This holistic approach allows us to create a more immersive and engaging experience for our players, where abilities and stats complement each other seamlessly.

When players utilize abilities, they can expect to see some exciting changes and interactions with various in-game entities. These alterations will not only affect your character’s stats but also impact the entities that you use your abilities on. This revamp will add depth and strategic elements to the gameplay, making every decision you make feel meaningful.

As we work diligently to revamp these systems, we’re excited to provide you with a sneak peek into some new features that await you:

Weapon Types

We’re introducing diverse weapon types that will empower you to customize your playstyle. Each weapon type will come with three unique abilities, similar to what you’re already familiar with. However, this time, these abilities will be tied directly to the weapons themselves. Additionally, every weapon type will have a primary attack method that is always available without any cooldown.

Each weapon type will have its own dedicated talent tree. These talent trees will allow you to modify and fine-tune your chosen weapon’s playstyle. You’ll have the freedom to experiment, adapt, and create a personalized combat experience. Your character will have two weapon slots, offering even more gameplay possibilities!

Character Affinities

Tap into the raw forces of the Affinities! These elements will bestow your character with an ‘ultimate’. To utilize them, you’ll need to charge them up through gameplay. Each Affinity will also grant your character a passive effect, further enhancing your abilities and augmenting your playstyle.

Players will also be able to engage in ‘micro-games’ to make the most of their Affinities. These captivating interactions will deepen your connection with the element you have equipped. Additionally, each Affinity will provide special modifiers to specific weapon types, resulting in exciting and unique weapon interactions. You’ll have the power to strategically combine your weapon choices with Affinities, forging a gameplay experience that suits your preferences.

We can’t wait to unveil these enhancements and witness how they transform your experience. Stay tuned for future updates as we progress further with Project Eris.
