THIS WEEK AT HYPEROID - 17/02/2023
This Week At Hyperoid, we get busy crushing bugs?
TL;DR
Alright, before we get into this post, I’ll give the TL;DR here if you want it. We are going to be talking about what happened this week.
We did a deep dive into the development of PROJECT ERIS (check that out here if you want), which we will be talking a bit about that in this post. Mostly this week has just been trying to fix bugs with PROJECT ERIS and trying to get a stable demo build up and running. In the coming weeks we will be preparing a Kickstarter campaign and talking about the possibility of devlogs.
PROJECT ERIS Deep Dive
PROJECT ERIS is a 2D top-down action-adventure mobile game, where the player progresses through levels that have interesting puzzles to solve, all while combatting the unknown. I think that’s been stated so much that you probably get the point…
If you haven’t already. check out the deep dive here. If you want to get into the nitty-gritty stuff with the design and development of this project, then give the deep dive a read. You might learn something cool. If you don’t want to read it then… Carry on reading this post I guess…
The deep dive went into details about three key features of the game, what those key features were and how they related the the broader game. Those three key features were: Character Abilities, Boss Battles and Loot. It then talks about current obstacles and future endeavours with the project.
This week was mostly filled with fixing bugs and spending time making a stable build of the demo that doesn’t crash every so often. I was also making sure the assets in the demo, like enemies, environment and art, are of a presentable quality.
The Coming Weeks
While I get busy fixing all those bugs and getting a stable demo build up and running, we need to talk about what will happen after the demo is released. What is the roadmap looking like?
First, feedback streams will open up. While the demo is out, I will be listening and collecting a lot of feedback. A primary way I will be doing this is through a forums page that users can post their feedback on. This forums page is still a work in progress but should be up by the time the demo releases. I won’t only be looking at forums though. Other ways I will be collecting feedback includes our socials. Why not post some feedback on Twitter, maybe Discord too (discord server coming soon?)
After that, a Kickstarter campaign will be set up. While I’m still planning out the details of the campaign, you can be sure that it will be up sometime after the demo is released. Check back here to see when the campaign has started.
Devlogs?
Huh? A devlog? What’s that? Well a quick Google search will give you this nice definition: ‘A log (or blog, vlog, etc.) that updates the audience on the development progress of something, usually a video game, website, or app‘.
I honestly always hesitated with this idea because I never liked showing development progress to the public. I was always in the party of working on something and THEN showing a somewhat clean build to the public instead. The thing is, doing that makes people wait and it’s better to show some development progress to quench the thirst of waiting. It also serves as way of marketing, which is something this project needs right now.
Alas, one of the intentions with these posts is to try and build a community here. A following, if you will. Devlogs would be a good step towards that direction. Since we are just a few weeks out from the demo’s release, I will try to post a devlog somewhat nearer that time. You can be sure to find it on the YouTube channel when it’s out. Please do subscribe. If you want…
Closing Thoughts
I think I’ve gotten in the groove of writing these posts. I haven’t written much but these posts are definitely an effective way of forming my thoughts clearly, and giving them structure. I can tell you this, if your mind is in a jam, just write more. It actually helps.
With a few weeks to go till the demo’s release, I’m honestly getting nervous. Hopefully the gameplay concept will prove to be fun.
